Synopsis

The story of Nicky’s Family follows in moving detail the rescue operation organized by a young British stockbroker, Nicholas Winton, and a few of his colleagues in the Nazi-occupied Prague in 1939. The story is narrated by Sir Nicholas Winton himself (now 101 years old), the surviving children and hosted by Joe Schlesinger, a famous CBC reporter and also one of the rescued children. The “children”, now well into their seventies and with large families of their own, tell sometimes never-before-heard accounts of the dramatic events. Interviews are intertwined with wartime archive materials and beautifully reconstructed scenes that bring the 1939 events to life. The characters´ life-changing drama is thus brought to the big screen in a moving, cinematic way.
A secondary narrative of the film illustrates the profound effect that the story has caused around the world: the appraisal of Nicholas Winton by world’s statesmen, but most importantly, reactions of children worldwide who have found Winton’s story inspiring and motivating .
The central idea of the film is that one good deed, the action of one man, can motivate thousands of other acts of goodness around the globe. Good, just as evil, can be infectious and can spread rapidly throughout the world and create a community of goodwill that can have an immense social impact.
