The world of Miriam Kohen is filled with paintings, couture gowns, first edition books, alcohol, sex—and it’s all contained within the walls of the seventy-year-old artist and shut-in’s grand townhouse on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Her home is a self-portrait of sorts: eccentric, decadent, decaying, and totally counter-culture. Miriam doesn’t care about the moirés of acceptable society. That is, until the nest she’s carefully created for herself is threatened by neighbors, social service workers, and even her son. Told from Miriam’s decidedly unreliable perspective, the film requires the viewer to decide whether this is a caring group trying to keep an elderly lady from hurting herself or a conspiracy to take away one woman’s power.
