The story of João, a photographer looking for potential models in country towns of Rio Grande do Sul. After several auditions, João meets Maria, a young lady of rare beauty. She does not attend the second round of tests, so João goes in search for her.João meets Anita, Maria's mother, who tells him that the girl’s father (Pedro) does not want her to quit school. Pedro and Maria are traveling and João decides to wait for their return. Seeing Maria’s great potential, he is determined to make her take further tests. While waiting, João falls in love with Anita. Pedro and Maria come back home. Pedro is thirty years older than Anita and is nearly blind.João auditions Maria again and confirms his offer: Maria has been selected, she will sign a contract with the agency and start a career. In love with Anita, João wants to take the mother along when he takes the daughter away.
