Synopsis
Five stories are intertwined with one another. The protagonists want to regain control of their lives through brave and unconventional choices:
Marta is an attractive 70 years old woman. She lives in a very posh villa with her son Armando and her daughter-in-law Lucia who are hypocritical, possessive and cold.
Armando and Lucia take off on a long vacation, giving Marta an opportunity to spend some time alone at home with her maid Alima. Finally feeling unhindered by the presence of her son, she embraces her newly found freedom to joyfully enjoy the company of her new friend Alexander, a gentleman from overseas passing through Italy.
Alima, a beautiful Ethiopian immigrant of 30, works as a maid at Marta’s place all week long, going back home to join her boyfriend Sandro just over the weekends. When she finds out that she is pregnant, she confronts her boyfriend but he refuses to become the father of a “colored” baby.
Iva is a good-looking nurse aged 24. She works in a private clinic, where she is constantly harassed by her administrative director Fiorini.
50 years old Luisa is very shy and submissive. Consequently her neighbor Serena constantly gives her advice on what to do and how to live. Sandro takes advantage of her submissive character forcing her to grant his lover Brunilde hospitality in her house.
Serena is an elderly teacher, now retired. Wheelchair-ridden, she is extremely curious, nosy and talkative.
Sandro, Brunilde and Fiorini run a racket pushing anabolic steroids.
After a series of quirky circumstances there is an happy ending. All the protagonists focus their energy on changing their lives: they help one another to get through a series of weird situations and overcome traditional roles and relationships such as mother-son, employer-employee, man-woman. Despite their extremely different personalities, they manage to get along well and be useful to one another.
At the end of their adventure, Marta, Iva, Serena, Luisa and Alima decide to meet up again and create a blog. Their goal is to motivate whoever is in trouble to follow their example and never give up.
Due to the different vicissitudes and backgrounds of the characters and the comments posted by real people across the world, the story is strongly linked to other countries and is testimony to the importance of exchanging experiences and collaboration.
