Synopsis

It’s EMILY’s 16th birthday and she hasn’t heard from her father in months. A lonely, thoughtful girl, she is consumed by memories of her happy childhood, her loving mother and charismatic father, but now for reasons we initially don’t understand, she lives with her foster-mother, June.
At school, Emily meets Arden, who immediately falls for her and tries to get her attention, but Emily is a closed book.
Emily has to find out what’s happened to her father, so she turns to Arden for help, and he takes her to his Grandmother. She gives Arden her old yellow Renault 4 and his grandfather’s old velvet suit. Together Emily & Arden hit the road, driving across Ireland to find Emily’s father. They are an odd couple, this pale girl and the boy in the velvet suit, and along the way, they fall in love.
But when Emily finds out where her father is, she learns some hard and unexpected truths. Emily realises she has to come to terms with who her father is or she will drown in her past forever.

Simon Fitzmaurice is an award-winning film director and author. His short films have screened at festivals worldwide and his recent memoir became a best seller. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2008, and is completely paralysed except for the use of his eyes. My Name is Emily is his first feature film.
