The small town in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Due to a nuclear power plant accident several years prior, the area is slowly being exposed to radiation.
26-year-old would-be medical student Yuichiro (Watanabe) remains unemployed and living at home with his family.
His mother (Momoi) and other relatives expect him to take over his late father's private practice. However, contrary to the expectations placed on him, Yuichiro falls deep into a world of gambling and drug dealing as his days grow darker.
He soon learns of a secret, high-paying clinical study being run at the hospital's radiology department.
