Carol of the Bells is a story of three families – Ukrainian, Polish, and Jewish – who lived in the same building in Stanislaviv in 1938-1944. All three families disappeared one by one leaving their children in the building. The last one to disappear was a Ukrainian woman who is a teacher of music. She lost her husband but managed to save children and her daughter at the expense of her life. The story itself is the memories of Teresa, a grown-up Polish girl, who became a famous singer in New York. She recalls these events one Christmas night in 1984 in the airport waiting for the flight of Yaroslava – a Ukrainian girl with whom she survived the war. They have not met since 1945. Finally, after all these years, they are to meet each other. The only thing that she has from those days is the Ukrainian song – The Carol of Bells – which saved them during the war and made her popular. And now she dreams to sing it together with Yaroslava.
