1972. An American plane bombs Ho Chi Minh runway before crashing in the Cambodian mountains. The children of an isolated village capture the sole survivor... a black man. They keep him secret from the adults. Their childlike naivety means that they play with the man as though he were a pet animal, until the day Khmer Rouge resistance fighters discover their secret… They are instructed to guard the American in the village as he may be used in an exchange of prisoners. Taken in hand and indoctrinated by the resistance fighters, the children slowly lose their innocence… Ultimately, they are ordered to execute the prisoner. Feeling the end is near the prisoner takes one of the children hostage and tries to escape…
