Synopsis

Barcelona, 1956
Young Victor works as a writer in a publishing company, whose staff includes some of the most colourful characters in 1950s Barcelona. While he nurtures hopes of becoming a serious writer, his comic book “Capitán Trueno” becomes an unexpected success, although his intentions seem to go far beyond those of creating a Spanish crusader knight who will serve taken as a hero of the grim official ideology of Francoism.

Two young women unexpectedly turn up in his life.

One of them is Edènia, who he meets in rather strange circumstances on the blue tram and with whom she begins a relationship that eventually puts him into contact with the anti-Francoist resistance movement, leading him to join a clandestine group.

The other woman is Flora, an upper-class girl who arrives at the company to publish stories on her father’s recommendation. Victor tries to seduce and, especially, understand this fascinating and mysterious girl until he finally becomes aware of her serious mental imbalance.

As the adventures of Captain Trueno develop prodigiously on the pages of each issue, Victor’s secret and passionate anti-Francoist activities result in his being tortured at the police station of Via Layetana and imprisoned at the “La Modelo” prison. Victor is consequently made to doubt the effectiveness of the anti-Francoist cause, which places him at odds with Edènia, whose will it is to fight against Francoism to the very end.
