Marlo is visiting Berlin. He wanders slightly forlornly through the city. Kirill crosses his path on a corner, and Marlo soon meets him again on Warschauer Bridge. Great intimacy is immediately tangible between the two of them, but neither of them dares take the first step. They meet again, walk through the city, talk but fail to connect, then finally manage to remove their armour in Kirill’s student digs. SILENT YOUTH is a soft and poetic film about a love that slowly grows in slight gestures and tentative approaches. It is a coming-out film without the dramatics, a Berlin portrait without in-crowd images, a boys’ story portrayed by two wonderful actors (Martin Bruchmann, Josef Mattes) and a film for dreamers and lovers. “Filmed with great sensitivity. A wonderful, emotional trip.” (Premiere)
