Brazilian hinterland, 1777. The young girl Ayô is one of seven children from a ravaged quilombo – black communities founded by escaped slaves – that end up being captured by bush captains, cruel slave hunters who plan to sell them back into slavery. On their way back to the Portuguese settlements, the troop passes through a remote valley where the soldiers find gold in a riverbed. Consumed by gold fever, the bush captains fail to realize that the valley is inhabited by the Saçurá, an ancient one legged spirit that tries to lure the children into darkness while using the power of shadows to trick the soldiers with deadly pranks. Trapped between the scourge of slavery and mystery of the Saçurá, Ayô is forced to face her fear of the dark in a desperate fight for her life and freedom. Horror film based on the legend of the Saci, Brazil’s most revered folk character.
