Synopsis
Lespada is a private detective who not only owns a small office in the centre of Córdoba city, but he also has a lot of debts. Lespada and his partner Cherkavsky investigate a case of a widow threatened by her dead husband’s mobile phone which has been buried with his corpse. In the widow’s backyard, there were found mutilated animals and notes blackmailing the widow with huge amounts of money in exchange of her husband’s soul. She is also forced to abandon her house. At night, it is heard a no human shape walking on the roof which is constantly repeating the name of Maitreya. The detectives start the investigation in the graveyard where the husband and his mobile phone are buried. They find out that the device does not have the SIM card and that the employee, who helps the widow to put the mobile phone in the coffin, is a former prison guard, and now he is the chief of gravediggers in the cemetery. In addition, Lespada has to deal with his personal problems apart from the debts and his mid-life crisis. He is involved in a romantic but stagnant relationship with Victoria, the owner of the bar he usually attends. Not only that but also, his former wife, the holder of a very well known law firm, shows up asking about the mysterious case. Lespada and Cherkavsky find out that the name Maitreya is related to different religious prophecies where he is seen as the Messiah or the Anticrist rebelling against the world. However, along the investigation, they meet Amaya the Maitreya; a convict who leads a group of prisoners and prison guards who terrorize, kidnap and murder people with the purpose of selling properties to Lespada’s former wife’s law firm at a bargain price. Those properties are bought by a building company, integrated by different agricultural companies, to build modern and luxurious condominiums in the city. Finally, Lespada finds out the evidence of the corrupt deal thanks to a journalist hidden behind a blog on Internet. The problem is that the closer the detective gets to all the people involved in the case, the more in danger is Victoria’s life.
Only a truce between Lespada and Amaya the Maitreya avoids revenge against the detective and his acquaintances letting him live together with Victoria.
