What can you do when your parents have the audacity to remarry each other – without your permission? Young Rikutaro (Taishi Sato) and Mariko (Mau) find themselves unwillingly paired together when their parents exchange vows with each other, forming a new family. After enduring the taunting of their classmates, the pair hatch a grand scheme to split up their parents, only to find that it backfires. Cue the formation of the ‘divorce alliance’, a pact that will be enforced on pain of death! In this endearing tale of children who must adapt to changing family structures, child actors Taishi Sato and Mau give a beautiful portrayal of emotional turmoil and youthful hope. Directed by Koki Fukuyama (whose previous works include Saitama Kazoku and Night, Because), the film also features Tomoko Tabata (starring in Shinji Somai’s masterpiece Moving) and Jyonmyon Pe, who deliver fine performances as the parents. Featured at the 28th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2015, this film was also the opening film at the Skip City International D-Cinema Festival in 2015.
