Medical intern Kei (Takeru Satoh) discovers that he is an immortal "Ajin" when he is killed in a traffic accident and brought back to life. He is wanted by the government and civilians because the Ajins are considered dangerous inhuman race. He is being held captive in an Ajin research facility. While the government claims to help Ajin live in a safe environment, they are actually using them as subjects for cruel and inhumane experimentation. As a result, Ajins that have escaped are bent on revenge, with the exception of Kei who wants no part in the Ajin conflict.At the facility, a mysterious Ajin named Sato (Go Ayano) helps Kei. Sato is a terrorist that massacres humans in order to achieve his plans to subvert the nation, and create a society where Ajin can live in Japan. Although Kei is an Ajin like Sato, he cannot share Sato’s ideals. As Sato's actions become even more extreme, he eventually joins the fight to stop Sato's violent campaign.
