Based on the novel Hitsuji to Hagane no Mori by Natsu Miyashita that won the 13th Japan Booksellers’ Award in 2016, The Forest of Wool and Steel is a Japanese drama directed by Kojiro Hashimoto (Orange) that tells the story of a high school student’s ambition to become a piano tuner. It stars teen idol Kento Yamazaki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable) and veteran actor Tomokazu Miura (Outrage).Naoki Tomura (Kento Yamazaki) is a high school student who lives in Hokkaido. He meets piano tuner Soichiro Itadori (Tomokazu Miura) at his school. Naoki could smell the forest from the piano tuned by Soichiro. Naoki is touched by his work and begins to work at the musical instruments store where Soichiro works. This is where his challenges and adventures begin.Still relatively limited in his experience with music and the piano, Naoki gradually builds for himself an ideal of what it means to be a piano tuner through his interactions with the other tuners: Shinji Yanagi (Ryohei Suzuki), a man seven years his senior who is assigned to be his mentor during his training; Tadashi Akino (Ken Mitsuishi), who graduated from a conservatory and worked as a professional pianist for a time but ultimately had to give it up; and Soichiro, who has a number of world-class pianists for clients, and is able to persuade them to schedule concerts in Hokkaido.
