Chronicles of Solitude is a film structured as six chronicles/episodes with a common subject: a solitary castle built in the mid 1700s, located above a hill in Stuttgart in the Württemberg area in Germany.Duke Carl Eugen built the late-Baroque Solitude Castle between 1763 and 1769,first as a hunting lodge and summer residence. Soon, however, he began using the residence for the Hohe Karlsschule (Carl's High School) Military Academy, whose students included Friedrich Schiller.Solitude was later used for many functions, including a military hospital during the war, a restaurant, a prison and a student dormitory. As time progressed, the German monarchy ceased to exist and gave way to diverse governments and wars. In 1987 there was this first idea to create a special programme in the old building. In 1989 the Schloss was under construction to turn into Akademie Schloss Solitude. In 1990, the historical area became a residency for artists, architects, musicians, writers, filmmakers, philosophers and scientists among other multiple disciplines who are invited to live and work temporarily. The two officers and cavalier's buildings are the ones that today house the living, working and exhibition areas of the Akademie Schloss Solitude.
