Luisa Llorente, an assessor for an estate agent called Inmoverance, was assigned the fearsome task of valuing Lázaro Valdemar's house. She has disappeared into thin air and two teams are out to find her. On one hand there is Nicolás Trámel, a private eye hired by Maximilian Colvin, head of the company. On the other, Ana and Eduardo, Luisa's workmates, are driving there hoping to join forces with the detective. But then something happens... In the dead of night, a figure bursts forth onto the road, causing them to crash. Before passing out, the driver manages to get a glimpse of the culprit and it's none other than Luisa Llorente herself, who's desperately trying to get away from her pursuer. In her thrilling escape, she falls down a hole to the bottom of a ravine. Meanwhile, the attacker seems satisfied with the couple hurt in the accident. Luisa wakes up in a gypsy wagon, where a mysterious woman cures her wounds and gives her a few clues about why she is there, why her workmates have been taken and what kind of fate awaits them. Nicolás Trámel, despite avidly studying the role played by a strange forbidden book in the whole of the plot, cannot even imagine the kind of dreadful dangers lurking in the shadows.
