During a sightseeing tour by boat on the Amsterdam canals, the body of a young prostitute, victim of a gruesome murder, is discovered. Eric Visser, a 30 year-old police inspector, is put in charge of the case. Eric meets Laura, an attractive, intelligent woman of about 30, who slowly suspects that one of her close acquaintances has some involvement with the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. The police investigation proceeds with difficulty, and Eric is side tracked when – during a frantic speedboat chase - the suspected murderer escapes. Eric doesn’t realise, however, that at the same time, his new girlfriend as well as his 12-year-old daughter may be closer than he is to finding the killer. In a gripping climax to the story, Eric and his colleagues solve the mystery and find the mysterious diver whose campaign of terror was masterminded from a hidden lair within Amsterdam’s innocent canals.
