WHITE LILACS is a fictional portrait exploring the life and loves of one of Russia’s greatest composers, pianists and conductors, Sergei Rachmaninoff. Pavel Lungin’s film seeks to unlock the mystery that continues to surround the identity of the unknown woman who used to send Rachmaninoff a branch of white lilacs after each performance, even after the composer left Russia for America in 1918. In America, Rachmaninoff looks back on his life as a child prodigy and as a young man coming to terms with his own genius and its impact on those around him.
