The true story of the talented young South African poet Ingrid Jonker, a white artist and critic of the Apartheid regime. From an early age, Ingrid found freedom and solace only in writing. Despite the love of many men, and her relationship with the famous writer Jack Cope, no-one could give Ingrid what she was seeking. It was not until Nelson Mandela read one of her poems in his first speech to the South African Parliament that she finally found recognition.
