Log Line

The Latin Skyscraper unravels the mysteries that surround the mythical Palacio Barolo of BA (ARG). The urban myth that relates the building with Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy seems ungrounded. But a thorough and deeper research will discover that the building is part of a secret plan.

Synopsis

BAFICI catalogue. Peter Greenaway once managed to find a crime inside a 17th century painting (in the remarkable Rembrandt’s J’accuse), and the starting point of Sebastián Schindel’s intriguing documentary is not far from that. It aims to establish how much truth there is in the widely renowned (yet poorly proved) connection between the Barolo Palace and the Divine Comedy. Built against every esthetic cannon of its time, this emblematic Buenos Aires building that opened its doors in 1923 was commissioned to the architect Mario Palanti by Italian businessman Luis Barolo. This architect would build years later a “twin tower” on the other end of the River PlatEdición:the Palacio Salvo of Montevideo. Schindel leads an investigation that first studies the lives of these two men but suddenly starts moving into unsuspected directions. Each revelation made about the building, which could may be or not an “illustrated model of this Dante-like cosmos” seems to contain the seed of new mysteries regarding the Masonic legions, secret symbolism, underground rivers, and a (successful?) plan to rescue Dante’s ashes from the war in Europe.
