Synopsis

“Santa Monica 90404” is a multi-dimensional cinematic exploration of the cultural history of a small, once richly diverse neighborhood in Santa Monica, California. Utilizing magical reality, narrative story-telling and more standard documentary techniques, the film explores the changing landscape of today’s world by following the lives of two main characters: Paulina Sahagun, a teacher and life-long Mexican-American resident of the Pico neighborhood, and the Poet – a mysterious African-American resident who introduces Paulina to the “hidden history” of the neighborhood.
The making of this film becomes an illuminating journey of cultural understanding, as well as an intense personal journey of self-discovery for Paulina and the Poet.
