My daughter Caru was born in 1979. Her father and I were young militants of the student movement against the military dictatorship. At that time we wished that our daughter would live a long life in a democratic country. Right after she was born, democracy was achieved when the military left the government.Less than 40 years later, madam president Dilma Roussef elected by 54 million votes was impeached. Many agree that this was a parliamentary coup. 2018 is the year for presidential elections and we are amidst the electoral process. We live a time of great political insecurity. The biggest political leader in Brazil, former president Lula, is under arrest and yet has more than 40% of intention of votes. The second runner up is Jair Bolsonaro, a right wing extremist candidate that propagates violence, chauvinism and racism on his speeches on social media. He has just been stabbed and is hospitalized, from where he continues to make his hate speech. This film’s purpose is to accompany 2018’s presidential elections and wonder: my daughter will live her life in a democratic country, as everyone else of her generation?
