Synopsis
Jim and Ela return with their daughter Kin to the mining planet Sandoz. In their travel pods they live happy moments and memories from the mining camp. There is no mention to Kin’s recent failed procedure: an attempt to install a very useful enhancement on the planet, the ability to repress and control emotions. But the operation failed, and Kin’s mind went blank. Kin does not speak, Kin does not feel, Kin does not react. Kin is a ghost of the gir she used to be.
Entering the atmosphere Caronte, the pilot, loses control of the ship. In the accident, a few passengers survive, together with a group of miners, including Jim, some soldiers, two corporate representatives, Ela and Kin.
The group needs to cross the white desert, avoiding its creatures, which react to our fears, pain and happiness. They would be safe with a drug called "The white", but only CARONTE, a junkie, carries his own stash, hidden from the rest of the group.
The challenge is to walk through the sand without feeling, without thinking, without remembering. Impossible for Jim and Ela, with Kin's ghostly appearance and their latent hatred about it. It’s also a difficult task for the Latino miners, struggling with their anger against the pharmaceutical company. Only Caronte and Kin appear immune. Until Caronte is discovered, and the anger explodes: the creatures drag a big part of the group into the desert.
The survivors shelter in a gigantic underground mine. The group splits into two. Jim and Ela are left alone, and they argue over Kin. At the same time, Caronte feels again, after years of being under the influence of “the white". Caronte starts a killing spree. At the same time, the survivors confront between them. In the tunnels of the mine, the barren rooms, and between the white walls, the miners fight the soldiers. Only Ela, Jim and Kin manage to escape.
Finally, they end up alone in the middle of the desert, walking the last stretch of their relationship. And trying not to hate themselves to save her daughter's life
