Middle-aged Japanese woman Keiko has been living in a shell for decades due to a family tragedy in Kobe. The modest act of eating and the sensations it gives us provided Keiko a lifeline to survive. Unwillingly, she joins a group of Japanese women traveling to Northern Europe to participate in a kimono show. During her performance, Keiko suddenly comes face to face with her husband, who disappeared twenty years ago and now wants to readdress their relationship and who Keiko has become. It's an enigmatic encounter, as Husband appears mysterious and almost otherworldly. In the grip of confusion and despair, Keiko walks through the city and has chance meetings with various people who seem drawn to this curious, kimono-clad woman from Japan and her culinary sensibility. Food becomes a language between the different cultures of Japan and Europe, and Keiko ends up participating in a joint TV cooking show. With Husband at her side once again, Keiko's experiences gradually help her realize the inner strength she's had all along.
