thMarch 13 , 1964, the Kew Gardens resident, Kitty Genovese, was stabbed 17 times and later raped by her killer, WinstonMoseley. It has been documented that no less than 37 of her neighbors saw or heard how Moseley for 35 minutes had stalked, repeatedly stabbed and raped Genovese. None of the neighbors could explain why they did not interfere or why they had not even called the police. When confronted by the police and the public the most common answer was: I didn’t want to get involved.
