Synopsis

Akın is a young guy who lives in the slums of İstanbul. His life begins to change with the loss of his sick mother who was his only link to what he could reluctatly call "a family". Having major conflicts with his father, he decides to build a brand new life. Although he was planning to run away for a new beginning with his girl-friend, Deniz, using the money he has stolen/borrowed from his master in the carpenter shop , as Deniz refuses to leave her family behind, Akın's new-beginning-plans are diverted to another open offer: His friend İdris, working for the underground leaders of the town, introduces him to his boss. Leaving behind the only three people (his mother, his girlfriend and his master) keeping him on the right track and having nothing more to lose, Akın becomes a fearless guy indifferent to all the realities, fears and risks of this new life. His attitude attracts the attention of his new boss as well as some others who start to see him as a threat.
Akın is just one of the many young guys in the slums who are living the life that is written for them , with one or two parallel choices not giving them a real chance for a new beginning. The movie Çakal, with its realistic and harsh approach is questionning the audience,i.e. the society, about the support they have ever given to these young people in need of better-life chances.
