“Only by crossing the desert can we know ourselves” Teresa is forty-eight and has worked as a housemaid with an upper middle class family in Buenos Aires. She was born in Cuyo and traveled to the Capital looking for a better future. The story begins when Julieta, a girl she cared for since she was a baby gets married and gives her a special gift: A ticket to her hometown to see her dying sister. Julieta’s naïve gesture creates a dilemma for Teresa, going back to her hometown means confronting her own past which she had chose to forget, but her sister’s inminent death pushes her to retrace the trip she made 26 years ago from San Juan to the Capital. An ordinary trip becomes singular when she is at the Difunta Correa shrine and accidentally meets el Gringo, a door-to-door salesman who offers to take her to San Juan. Paradoxically, the trip will give Teresa the family she never had and will help her rediscover her own faith, which she lost the moment she left the village
