Don McKay is a quiet and unassuming high school janitor. Separated from his childhood sweetheart, Sonny, for almost twenty-five years, he still carries burning memories of her. When Don receives a letter telling him she is terminally ill, he rushes back to their hometown. Immediately Don and Sonny rekindle their lost romance, agreeing that it would be a symbolic gesture to be married for the short time Sonny has left. But Don soon realizes that not everything is as it seems in his small town. Shady characters from Sonny's troubled past start coming out of the woodwork, and Don quickly finds himself trapped in a game of murder, deceit, and mystery. Haunted by a terrible tragedy from his own past that forced him to flee his home, Don can't go to the police. To make matters worse it seems that Marie, Sonny's wary live-in nurse, is on to him. Don must fight for his life and solve the puzzle that confronts him while desperately clinging to the hope that Sonny is being honest. But when all is not as it seems...even lies become the truth!
