Synopsis
Long awaited project on Katyn and tragedy, which took place in the forests around Smolensk and at the same time in thousands of homes of the Polish intelligence, artists, officers, and all the Polish patriots, will be shown through the perspective of the three women drama – mother, wife and daughter of the Polish officer shot in the back of his head, as the thousand of other prisoners of the camps in Katyn, Miednoje and Charkow. It will be a drama of women, who await their beloved man despite many reports on crimes and the proofs of his death. This movie will tell the story of hope and a murder; the story of the Katyn lie, which lasted tens of years.
80-year old Wajda admitted he has been very much afraid of the reactions to the movie, which is extremely important for him as his own father was killed in Katyn. He said: “(…) I feel very responsible for this movie and this is my entire, personal responsibility (…)”
Piotr Mularczyk is the script writer. Main Polish stars will play under their real names - Krzysztof Kolberger, Danuta Stenka, Maja Komorowska, Artur Zmijewski, Maja Ostaszewska, Wladyslaw Kowalski, Andrzej Chyra, Stanislawa Celinska, Magdalena Cielecka, Pawel Malaszynski among others. Pawel Edelman will stand behind camera.
