In a conservative provincial town, a judge passes a capital sentence on a son of an influential doctor. While handcuffed to his father, the young man is subjected to his overseeing before the execution. The father tries to convince the son that he will settle the case. However, the father’s strange and irresposnsible behaviour on the eve of the execution makes the son have great misgivings about it. A planning of the up-coming funeral is going on in the restaurant of the town: dishes and drinks are chosen to order, while the grave-diggers finish off the digging of a new grave next to the grave of the young man’s mother. On hearing the plea of the father, who had treated him as a doctor, the officer in charge of the execution agrees only to make alterations in the shooting procedure: the temple will not be the target in accord with the sentence but the distance at which the aim will be taken will be enlarged.
