Synopsis

The acclaimed poet Robert Frost is examined by independent filmmaker Shirley Clarke in this documentary film completed shortly before his death at the age of 88. The figure of Frost is presented by cleverly interspersing his speeches by Amherst and Sarah Lawrence Colleges who joined the studies of his work as well as scenes from his life in rural Vermont and personal reminiscences about the poet's career. He is also seen receiving an award from President Kennedy, his greatest admirer, and visiting an aircraft carrier. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1964, which contributed to the rediscovery of Robert Frost's work to an ever-growing audience.
