“I feel tired of all this daily battle that is bad for my health,” film distributor Pascual Condito wrote when, two years ago, he announced his retirement from the market. Marcos Martínez captures his reinvention and exposes him as a furious Quixote fighting against Hollywood and the big companies that, according to him, “have perpetrated a true massacre.” Condito –who once tattooed a scene from Cinema Paradiso in his arm and has had cameos in more than sixty local productions– is a collector of memories and objects from the past, as well as a defender of what he considers good cinema in times of exterminating blockbusters. He’s also a ghost among an industry and a city that have changed. Tras la pantalla is the chronicle of his self-exile from that nation we call film and, at the same time, a view on the crisis of the local scene; one that offers viewpoints and solutions that issue from the conversations Condito holds with such friends as Raúl Perrone, Lisandro Alonso and Fernando Martín Peña. A melancholic, necessary documentary.
