An old man arrives in Haiti many years after the revolution. He remembers the screams of Mackandal and smells his burning flesh. Closes his eyes and feels over his hands the blood of his old owner's wife. Mackandal and the Kingdom of this World is an animated feature film project based on the classic novel by Cuban author Alejo Carpentier. It explores the cyclical events of slavery, emancipation and reigns in Haiti from the late XVIII to the early XIX century. It is the story of Ti Noel, a slave belonging to the estate of Monsieur Lenormand de Mezy. Throughout his eyes we witness the historical, political and social journey of Haitians in three key moments over 70 years, while following his transformation as a character, losing and regaining his humanity in each step.
