Synopsis
Pluft is a teen ghost who is afraid of people, and the film is about the courage that may come forth from fear, and about the affection that grows in spite of differences. Pluft was never a dead boy; he has a mother ghost and a father ghost. But since his father died, and turned into blue cellophane at the theatre he haunted, the family moved to an old house, at a lost beach, in a faraway land. There, Pluft and his mother live with his uncle Gerund, a retired ghost from the sea. One day, Pluft meets Maribel, an orphan girl as lonely as he. She is the granddaughter of the late Capitan Serenity Rainbow, and has been kidnapped by a pirate interested in her grandfather’s hidden treasure. Pluft has to overcome his fear to help his new friend.
The film is based on the play "Pluft, o fantasminha" (Pluft, the little ghost) from Maria Clara Machado. First staged in 1955, the play was translated into several languages and it’s a classic, the most important play for children in Brazil, crossing generations. Pluft is a family film, mixing fantasy, adventure, in a coming of age story.
