Waiting for you, at land's end... At the tip of the Noto Peninsula, where the coastline stretches for as far as the eye can see. All that stands at "land's end" is a crumbling boat house and a ramshackle wooden lodge. The figure of a lone woman appears on the landscape. Before long, she has converted the boathouse into a small cafe, serving hand-roasted coffee. Living in the nearby lodge is a young single mother. Raising her son and daughter alone, she's become increasingly frustrated with her constrictive existence. With different outlooks on life, the two women get off to an awkward start, but at land's end a bond is forged. Set against the majestic beauty of the Sea of Japan, The Furthest End Awaits is a quietly moving portrait of the friendship between two women. The film's original story was inspired by this wondrous boat house café at the farthest reaches of Japan. The Furthest End Awaits is a moving portrait of the beauty of life, sorrow and the fleeting nature of things depicted through the life choices and friendship of two women in modern society.
