Chencho (13) wants to go to Chicago. Lost in the desert, he holds the reins of a surreal cart whose owner has died with a compass pinched in his hand. With aimlessly characters added, Chencho drives north in a wagon stinking to rot.

Chencho is a thirteen year old boy. After his mother’s death he decided to leave for America in search of his older brother. On the road, he meets Paciano, an old man who dies shortly after inviting him into his wagon, and show him how to read a compass, which got stuck in his hand. Several characters, with no other place to go, jump into the wagon: Eufemia, Chelo and Marina, three mourners who just buried the last man on town. Wachinton, who can't walk and moves in the desert in a market cart; Gutierrez, a soldier who accidentally killed his General; Lucas, a one-eyed boy with a lame dog, addicted to electric shocks, and Rogelio, shot for stealing goats... when goats are the ones that follow him. The wagon navigates through the desert, guided by the hand of the dead who is starting to rot.
