As a child, growing up in grinding poverty, Kaethe rushes to the theaters of Berlin as a young girl, because of her extraordinary talent. For years she has lived with the famous sculptor Max Kruse in a scandalous, wild marriage and was a member of the legendary community of life reformers settled on the Monte Verità at Lago Maggiore. Out of necessity Kaethe developes a doll the world has never seen before; soft, warm and heavy. A child for the child. What follows is a turbulent career. Her handcrafted dolls become national and international bestseller. But suddenly, totally unexpected, the little creatures are in grave danger. Bing, the powerful toy manufacturer begins to copy Kaethe's dolls and sells them far below the price of the original Kaethe Kruse dolls. Kaethe, one of the first female entrepreneurs in Germany, is forced to fight for their highly sought-after dolls. But the prospects are not very promising. Up to this point, no toy was granted copyright protection. In a spectacular, seven-years ongoing process that takes several instances, Kaethe tries to secure the copyright of her dolls and to save her company.
