The film will tell the true story of Sadako Sasaki and author Eleanor Coerr, who wrote the worldwide best-selling children’s novel “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.”Sadako Sasaki was two years-old when the atomic bomb was dropped near her home in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. She survived the blast but, ten years later, she was diagnosed with leukemia caused by exposure to radiation. Sadako found strength in a Japanese legend told to her by her mother - if she folded one thousand paper cranes, she would be granted a wish. At the same time, an aspiring journalist and young mother, Eleanor Coerr, learns of Sadako and becomes determined to uncover the truth of her story and share it with the world. These two remarkable stories weave together to show the power of love, family, hope, and a person’s ability to forever change the world. Nearly seventy years later, Eleanor’s book is required reading in many schools around the world and, to this day, millions of children from all over the globe send paper cranes to Sadako Sasaki’s statue in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
