Synopsis

Confined to his invalid chair old Gyunter, who used to embarrass his people by his extravagant fancies, agrees to finance wedding procedures to marry his grandson Richard, provided that a young man goes to the Caucasus right away “on a mission – to spit in the ugly mug of that scoundrel Markus”, as a punishment for his betrayal committed in 1941,when all German population of Azerbaijan was deported to the steppe of Kazakhstan by Stalin regime. Yong Richard “a cold fish and pragmatist” has to obey, hoping to carry it out for a couple of days. But in reality it turns out to be more difficult than he expected. As a result, Richard and Medina, an interpreter who accompanies him, have to make a long hard way in the mountains of Azerbaijan and Georgiya to find Markus in a state of a decrepit half-dead hermit, whose helplessness awakes in the young man the reserves of high humanism, living at heart of every human being. ... Richard writes to his grandfather a confession of his uselessness and inability to fulfill “such a trivial task he was entrusted with”. At this time Gyunter is dictating the text of his will at home: “I deeply regret to have entrusted my grandson with that mission. If I, a sinner, had a choice, I would like to find myself in paradise. Let Richard apologize to this wretched Markus. I forgive him”... Living all his life with thirst for vengeance, Gyunter moves to the other world having purified his heart of nasty hatred.
