Synopsis
Juliano is a 24-year-old and closeted anthropologist from a wealthy family in the countryside of Brazil. He has just moved to Rio to research for his master’s degree, on the lives of sex workers. On his first night, he becomes instantly obsessed with on escort boy, Adrien, the most beautiful guy he has ever seen. He also makes a new friend, Monica, a trans woman in her 70s.
The next day, Juliano’s grandmother, who raised him and supports him until today, dies. Suddenly, he finds himself with no money and no family. In deep denial, he refuses to go to the funeral, and focuses all of his time and energy on his research. But it turns out he can only think about Adrien, who has now disappeared.
Juliano starts to work as a prostitute. In part, because he’s having trouble finding another job. But also because that’s a way to continue his research – and be closer to Adrien. The problem is, Juliano is also developing a cocaine addiction which makes him more and more self-destructive.
In the end, with Monica’s help, Juliano realizes that he needs to accept himself as an escort boy. He starts making a documentary based on his research, and becomes an activist for the rights of sex workers.
