Synopsis

The case of the 10,000 women took place in 2007 in Campo-Grande, a provincial and small town in the south-west of Brazil, in South-Mato-Grosso – a rich agribusiness state with one of the highest incidence of Indian slaughter and violence against women.
Medical records of 10,000 women who were seen at a private women’s health clinic were seized by the police and revealed on prime-time television. Many of the women were then tried and convicted under article 124 of the Brazilian Penal Code, "To cause an abortion to oneself or to allow others to cause an abortion to oneself” a law that carries a mandatory sentence of one to three years in prison.
The CASE OF 10,001 WOMEN, a crime-drama feature project based on true events, adds one more woman to this long list and focuses on the powerful character of the doctor-anesthetist NEIDE MOTA MACHADO, owner of the Clinic. During the three years in which Campo Grande became the stage for a medieval inquisition for thousands of women and the arena where activists from feminist and 'pro-life' movements battled, Dr. Neide lost her clientele, as well as her clinic and medical license and was exposed in the media as a mercenary and an assassin.
But of all the 10,001 women, only she died.
