Synopsis
A dark secret lies hidden in the depths of the thick, impenetrable forests of Transylvania. Only one man can unravel its mystery, the fearless scientist and explorer, Jonathan Green.
As a cartographer Jonathan set out from England at the start of the 18th century on a journey to the mysterious, unmapped lands and onwards across the globe. One of the first man to measure and map the Earth’s circumference, he realises to be hopelessly lost, passing through the outer reaches of Transylvania.
As he runs out of food and fuel, Jonathan struggles deep in to the forest. Confused finally by a thick fog, he stumbles across a small unheard of strange settlement deep in as yet unmapped territory.
Green has come across the local inhabitants who he has taken to be similar to Pirates. He asks the question, what would Pirates be doing on dry land so far from the seas and oceans, lost do deeply in the thick forests. And he begins to understand that the answers will reveal a remarkable secret.
Pragmatic and empiric, scientist Jonathan Green dares to solve the mystery and discover the truth behind the secret. First he learns of the mysterious murder of the village Lord’s daughter, and then encounters an ancient, mythical creature that has come to life in the minds and souls of the impressionable villagers.
The creature is widely known in local folklore as Viy, a huge merciless monster conjured up from the ancient tales of Slavic legend that devours its prey, ravages young women, and steals the souls of all it encounters eye to eye...
The movie was filmed in world famous studios: Gatteo, Barrandov and Letnyany. These studios are rightly considered to be the second Hollywood and the heart of the European film industry. More than 400 Hollywood movies were also filmed here, including such blockbusters as Van Helsing, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Brothers Grimm, Casino Royale, Wanted, Alien vs. Predator, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, etc.
he main character is mapmaker and explorer Jonathan Green (based on historical figure Guillaume le Vasseur de Beauplan). He is portrayed by British actor Jason Flemyng. His career includes more than 90 films, 86 of which were produced by Warner Brothers.
