FIVE is a feature documentary that tells five different stories; all connected by one major circumstance called KGB. The focus of this film is on personal destinies of people that faced a “great” system. Every testimony of this system has its own truth to tell. In the central avenue of Vilnius, right next to the music academy, there is a nice neoclassical palace, the perfect spot for a touristic souvenir photo with your family. But behind the clean appearance and the Ionic columns there used to be the Lithuanian KGB headquarters and its prisons. This is where our characters were facing braking points of their destinies. Every character of this film had entered this building and left it being different person. A young rebel hippie with torn jeans and a melody of Jesus Christ Superstar in his head decided to became a monk. The arrest of a geology professor made him a world travelling fighter for human rights that met Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan. Dusty offices of KGB wiped out romantic illusions out of a young agent’s head and turned him into an inside destructor. A dutiful interrogator after interrogating his prisoners 4 hours every day had discovered him being a double or even triple faced personality, still looking for a rational explanation to all the years of his KGB service. This film is a collage of five tales that were taking clashing positions, a collage of reminiscences and experiences of people whose lives were bound by KGB during the last decade of Soviet Union: the 80’s. It is a provocative invitation to infiltrate their consciences and to perceive their attitudes; an experience that can be inspiring with its positivity but frightening by its own truth.
