Set against a backdrop of Bradford, a troubled city now on the rise. - 38 yr old ADAM TEASEDALE had the world at his feet. As sole heir of Workingmen’s club - ‘The Brad Pit’, - the family club left to him by his late parents. He holds the title - the third most eligible Batchelor in Bradford – (Or 3EBB).
So when the club is gutted in a mysterious fire, and a police investigation follows, Adam runs away with the £5,000 of local whip round cash - to a new life in Bulgaria, leaving large holes in pockets and friendships, and his UNCLE BRY to pick up the pieces.
The story begins in Bulgaria a year later. Adam’s life has come to this. He’s a cheesy keyboard entertainer in a crummy hotel bar who deep down always wanted to be a pop star writing his own songs.
He then hears of two 80’s obsessed lottery winners from his hometown of Bradford, and their plan to throw an 80’s tribute contest with a cash prize of £200,000. Just enough for Adam to bury his pop star dream and knuckle down to become a Bulgaria hotel big shot.
So Adam returns home to Bradford to find his young Brother Bry has taken a cash deposit to sell the sacred family club to property developer and tribute king TONY HARDLY, lead singer of club land favourites - Spandau Cafe.
With the club almost signed away, and Adam’s connection with his late parents fading like his highlights, things are not looking good for Adam Teasedale, and he is torn between his new plans in Bulgaria and his old life.
Even a visit to Bradford pop legend Rueben Cope - for some answers to Adam’s late parents past proves fruitless. As Adam finds his childhood hero Rueben – a broken recluse (a surgically enhanced Part man part keyboard) living in the shadows of his former super group Elevator Gods. An 80’s band famous for breaking all the rules with groundbreaking courage, music and originality.
Adam finally convinces his best mates to forgive him and reform their Duran Duran tribute band ‘The Reflex. To do battle with the giants of the UK tribute underworld at an 80’s Butlin’s weekender, thrown by two 80’s obsessed lottery winners.
The contest draws such bands as Spandau Cafe, Depeche Vogue, Culture Pub, Alan and the Ants, The League of Humans, Poison Arrow, and legendary Newcastle rocker John Bon Geordie.
What follows is a clash of hair and ego’s and a crazy road trip to Skegness. Will Adam turn and run like he’s always done? Or will he learn from Rueben Cope’s mistakes, win back his friends and learn to harness the secrets that lie in the heart of a true Elevator God.
