Synopsis

For Over 6,000 people died in the Great Hanshin Earthquake that struck Kobe. The quake occurred at 5:46 AM on January 17, 1995. Since then, there has been a memorial gathering in Kobe every year at the same day and time.
January 16, 2010. Yuji Tanaka (Mirai Moriyama) suddenly realizes that the next day will be the earthquake memorial. He's on the bullet train, heading for Hiroshima on a business trip. Impulsively, he decides to get off the train at Shin-Kobe Station, where he happens to meet Mika Omura (Eriko Sato), another Kobe native. Mika says she wants to go to the memorial service the next morning, but can't make up her mind and feels frightened. Both Yuji and Mika now live in Tokyo, but they experienced that huge earthquake themselves when they were children. They become engrossed in their conversation, forgetting the time. The last train of the night leaves the station without them, and Mika suggests that they take a long walk through the streets. Yuji stays with her, walking until dawn. Actually, Mika suffers emotional wounds she's never been able to talk about before: a close friend of hers died in the earthquake. In the dark streets of Kobe, all the thoughts and feelings that were etched in her heart by the disaster those many years ago come flooding up.
