Based on a true story and set in rural India, two young lovers from different castes decide to marry against the wishes of their parents. They elope and the parents, believing they have been dishonored by their children’s actions, organize a hunting mob from their village to track them down and kill them, led by the girl’s brother. A female Australian television journalist - a former award winning war correspondent newly stationed in India - sets out after the couple to cover their story, but becomes emotionally involved in their plight and ultimately risks her own life to try and save theirs.
