Synopsis

Sophia's parents died before her eyes in a car crash as a child. Scarred by the experience and isolated by her grandmother, Viv, Sophia escapes into her imagination. The fantastical world she sees when she closes her eyes is more real to her than the smothering surroundings her grandmother and granddad, Jim, provide. She's adrift and apart from everyone else, alone with visions they can't comprehend.

Amy is floating through life, as well. Seemingly unable to commit or care, she follows her mother, Diane, back to the UK from the US where they're escaping a troubled past and Amy's father, Mark, who terrorizes the family. On arrival, though, it seems like Amy is destined to repeat her mother's mistakes as she falls in with a local gang.

Sophia reaches out to Amy, but Amy rebuffs her neighbor. On the surface, they appear to be so different from one another. Amy seems assured and world-weary while Sophia looks timid and impossibly sheltered; but as Amy's past catches up with her and the choices she makes threaten her very life, it's Sophia who saves her.

This frightened little mouse down the street actually has a secret way of seeing the world and a determination that puts her bolder friend to shame. They open up to one another and in a brief but powerful exchange, alter each other's destiny forever.

This film tackles profound issues of abuse and loss and reveals new ways of seeing the human condition. Helmed by Director Adam Lipsius ('16-LOVE,' 'Oceans Rising'), 'Amy & Sophia' was shot on location in Cardiff and London. It stars Sir Julian Glover ('Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,' 'Game of Thrones') with his wife Isla Blair ('Valmont,' 'Johnny English Reborn'), together on screen for the first time in over twenty-five years. The cast also includes UK Stage and Screen leading lady Denise Van Outen (Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Tell Me on a Sunday,' and 'East Enders'), Joseph Millson ('Casino Royale,' 'I Give It a Year'), Emma Raine Walker as Sophia in a script she wrote and introducing Ali Rodney in an electrifying debut as Amy.
