The return of a teenage girl, who has survived the Shoah, becomes her courageous search to learn to live again. In her aunt's home where she finds refuge after the war, however, Anita soon discovers that memory is not a welcome guest. No one wants to listen to what she has to say and everyone only seems to want to forget. Even her boyfriend Eli forbids her to mention anything about what has happened. It is as if everyone feels ashamed of having survived. When Anita discovers that she is expecting a child, she is torn between remembering the past as she looks to the future, and salvaging the future from the most atrocious past. The kindness of a Christian doctor and her indomitable courage to live, make her decision to leave for the Promised Land a reality. A symbol of hope and reconciliation, and above all for Anita, the promise of a true beginning.
