April, 1998. A 5-year-old child plays in his room in a house isolated close a lake while his parents argue in the living room. He hears a shot. The child heads to the door that leads to the garden where he sees his mother (Silvia) kill his father with a hunting shotgun. Silvia, her face shaken and with blood dripping from her brow, passes her son without looking at him, and enters the house. Years later, Silvia is living in the same house with Ana, a woman younger than her. Even through their isolation and the routine that comes with coexistence, both keep their sexual desire for each other alive, both suffer through jealousy, they love and they hate. Nothing would make you suspect the secret that they hide.Unable to detach herself from the hell through which she lived, Silvia can no longer stand the presence of her son, and so she keeps him imprisoned in the basement. Ana is in charge of taking care of the child, and is unable to rebel through fear of losing the one she loves. Everyday more isolated from the outside world, their days dance between the struggle to keep their relationship alive, the guilt they feel, and the threat of being discovered.Through the eyes of the two protagonists in Waltzing with Himmler we delve into the complexity of the human being and into the mechanisms that underlie power games. On a path between heaven and hell, we try to make sense of these acts of terror that rationally we cannot understand as we ask ourselves over and over: To what lengths would we go to for love?
